Story
After suffering what we thought was a heart attack, it turned out to be Sepsis. She had been complaining of infection type symptoms, but had no high temperature, her doctor was continuing tests on here and she was due to get results on Christmas eve. Within 5 hours of arriving at hospital on Friday 21st December, Barbara died in intensive care.
This infection is a killer, so please be aware of symptoms.
Sepsis accounts for 48,000 deaths annually in the UK, that’s more than breast, bowel and prostate cancer put together. Sepsis is what happens when our immune system overreacts to an infection.
Symptoms initially present as flu like but can rapidly deteriorate into a life threatening condition.
