Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
The CEO Sleepout was a massive experience. It took place on Monday 16 April, where I joined the heads of other organisations and spent the night at Fratton Park, to raise awareness of homelessness.
Here is my reflection from the night:
It was a dry night with a brisk wind so none of the anxieties of sleeping out in the cold or wet were on my mind. But I was thinking about how quickly any of us can find ourselves in that situation.
Imagine one catastrophic life event leading to another. Redundancy, debt, homelessness then no address to claim any benefits - it's a slippery slope, losing dignity and respect.
We experienced a safe quasi sleepout, but think of the snow and cold we have had. Would we have been brave enough to have experienced those conditions even for a night?
We purport to be a civilised society and yet there are many people who are abandoned in our communities.
I hope this goes a small way towards changing their lives. It opened my eyes to the hardships they experience every night sleeping rough on our streets.
That is where we have to thank our supporters for their generosity in helping to raise funds to support our local homeless community. There is still time to contribute to the cause and donate money.
