Volunteering at Amani February 2020 · 1 February 2020

The Charity supports efforts to bring relief to deprived families and individuals in Tanzania, in particular children with disabilities. We focus on community-based rehabilitation and educational development projects in collaboration with the Amani Centre, Morogoro and other partners in Tanzania.

Story

We have a brilliant opportunity to send children from Amani for corrective surgery, carried out by a team of Italian flying medics (surgeons, nurses, and anaesthetists) who are due to arrive in April!  The cost per child is £80 (unbelievable), including physiotherapy, recovery time at the centre, transport, and food.  We can help 11 children, so.... £880 needed!

I visited the Centre at Mlali and was so inspired by the work carried out by the Fransiscans.  The Centre cares for children with disabilitiy, but what makes it particularly special is that they have the operating theatre, with all the necessary facilities to carry out surgery on the children.  The Italian team fly in twice a year for a month at a time.  They treat about 30 children a year.  Quite amazing.

Their Physiotherapist came to Amani to assess the children and their suitability for an operation.   I sat
with him during the assessments – so interesting..

So, if you'd like to, please make a donation, but no pressure, as I will be having the usual fundraiser later in the Spring!!
