In memory of Barbara Stevens

Sutton Carers Centre (SCC) supports people who care for family members or friends unpaid. This could mean supporting a disabled child, a husband with dementia, or a sister with mental health problems; a young carer could be looking after a parent with MS or a sibling with autism. SCC provides advice, information, support, therapies and breaks, so that carers can stay well and supported too.

Story

Thank you for visiting our family page, to remember our mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and great-grandmother, Barbara Lyndon Stevens, who passed away in April 2017 at age 91. She was much loved by us all, as well as by our extended network of family and friends. She will be remembered for her gentle, caring nature and dedication to family life.

Barbara was a family carer for most of her life. While raising 'her boys', she cared for Grand-dad Tom, her father, for many years as he shared the three-generational family home in Battersea until he passed away in his late 90s. She later cared for husband Bill in their Worcester Park, Sutton bungalow, until he passed away at age 89. In her latter years, roles reversed as she was cared for by her son Mark as well as son Paul and families plus her close friend, Trina.

The family had additional support at key times from a small charity in her local community, Sutton Carers Centre. Daughter-in-law Rachael leads this charity and therefore can ensure that all donations will go directly to help other local families who care for relatives and friends who are ill or disabled.

Specifically, money donated in Barbara's memory will support two projects: one for Older Carers, helping to complete the installation of a hearing loop system in the Carers Centre - and a second, to extend the 'Kidstime' programme which supports Young Carers in families affected by mental health and substance misuse issues.

Thank you again for choosing to remember and honour Barbara in this way.

With love from Mark, Rachael & Lucas, Paul, Margaret, Jane & Sally and families xoxo
