Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Each year 60,000 babies in the UK are born prematurely. It's a sad fact, that some survive, and some do not.

On 29th August, 2021, I, with the support of a crack team of Crossfitters from Dominus Crossfit in York will lift 1million kgs within a 12 hour window. Yes, you read it correctly. 1 million kgs.

I’ll do this via a mixture of Crossfit movements, Olympic weightlifting / powerlifting techniques, and strongman style events... Maybe I could deadlift a car? Well, there's a thought.

Why am I doing this? Simple. My son Fraser was born 7 weeks premature, and thanks to the staff at York Special Care Baby Unit, he is still with us today, living a normal healthy life.

By chatting to the staff, we learned that everything in the unit was paid for entirely by donations and fundraising rather than through NHS funding. Therefore we wanted to do something to help make sure that other families found their stay in York Special Care Baby Unit that little bit easier.

With this Crossfit challenge of lifting 1 million kgs, a raffle which includes some pretty spectacular prizes (even if we do say so ourselves), a bake sale, a comedy gig, and a general whip round, among other things, we hope we can raise some much needed funds for York Special Care Baby Unit so that no family needs to worry that their premature baby doesn't have access to either the most basic equipment, or the most up-to-date equipment needed.

The pandemic added another layer of difficulty to the job that the staff at SCBU face, and further challenges for parents and families. We initially intended to host this event in April 2020, but now that we think is there is some light at the end of the tunnel, we are delighted to confirm a new date for this event to take place.

My wife and I can't thank the staff enough for the hard work, care and love they show to each and everyone of the babies that passes through their doors.

I know times are hard, but any donation you can make to this wonderful cause is gratefully received.

Love and thanks a million,
