A few weeks ago I heard of a 69 year young lady who was intending to trek to Base Camp for the Mercian Regiment Benevolent Fund. She was intending to go solo.

In one of the slightly more insane moments of my life, I wondered if she might like some company? The answer came back as 'Yes', and so Lucky (if slightly mad) Me is now joining Enid Corker (also on Just Giving) on her septogenarian adventure.

In the whole of her lifetime there had never been a time when the military had not been in some sort of war/peacekeeping role,' she said. 

She is right: We live as freely as we do because of the sacrifices our soldiers have made. Rarely are these silent heroes more than a name or a photograph or a short news bulletin.

The reality check for these chaps is that their lives are changed absolutely, irrevokably, and forever.

Any help, that can be given to facilitate their recovery and enable as full and as high quality a life as possible given the constraints of their injuries, has got to be worth giving for.

So I'm putting in the miles, in the hope that you will put in the pounds. Every penny counts.

As an ex-Military Nurse, and with my late husband having been military too, I understand the difficulties faced by our servicemen and their familes.

This Trek marks the 10th anniversary of my husband Mike's death. I shall be saluting him from Base Camp and Kala Patar.
