Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
My name is Barney and I am 9 years old. Last November I injured my foot and it wouldn't get better, it kept getting worse. In January the hospital diagnosed CRPS (Complex Regional Pain Syndrome). CRPS happens when the nervous system and the immune system malfunction as they respond to tissue damage caused by trauma (in my case it was a sprain but it could be a cut, a burn or a break too). The nerves misfire and end up sending constant messages of pain to the brain. I cannot put any weight on my foot and so have to use crutches or a wheelchair to get around. It is very rare in children and there is no known cure but I am hoping that my physio exercises will help me walk again.
I really miss cycling and going for walks but I am getting really good in my wheelchair and love going up the hills in my village! I want to set myself the challenge of completing a marathon during lockdown and I would be so grateful if you would sponsor me to raise funds for our amazing NHS.
Thank you very much,
from Barney
