Royal Parks Half Marathon 2025 · 12 October 2025 ·

The Red Cross War Memorial Children's Hospital, Cape Town, is one of Africa's first specialist paediatric Hospital. We make sure that Africa's sickest children have the access to high quality healthcare they need. Together we can give the Hospital's children a second chance at childhood.

Story

In a few weeks, the Fransen trio will be lacing up again — this time for the Royal Parks Half Marathon in London. We last ran together at the Geneva Half Marathon in May (the photos above are from before and after...), and now we’re running in support of the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital in Cape Town.

*A bit about us*

David has already run the Royal Parks Half Marathon for the same charity in the past. He’s the one who keeps our runs steady and sensible, and will do his absolute best on the day ... despite age not being on his side.

Scott has taken to running like a duck to water and he has been keeping the rest of us motivated. He’s focused and determined, and it’s great to be running alongside him... if only he didn't have a stag-do the night before the race ...

Barrett has been quite into running for a few years, and seems to constantly be training for something. He runs up mountains or on flat tarmac, but this will be the first time that he has run a race in the UK.

*About the hospital*

The Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital is South Africa’s first standalone specialist paediatric hospital, and its work reaches across the continent. Each year it sees around 250,000 patient visits, many from South Africa’s poorest communities and some referred from other African countries. The hospital provides specialist care that simply isn’t available elsewhere for thousands of children every year.

*How you can help*

We’re raising money for the hospital and would be grateful for any support. We will match the total amount raised. If you can, please donate and share this page with others who might want to help.
