In memory of Jen Anderson

We help the babies, children and young people treated at Scotland's largest children's hospital, the Royal Hospital for Children, Glasgow. We fund medical equipment, research, play programmes and family support services to ensure that our young patients receive the best possible care and experience.

Story

The 27th of March would have been Jen’s birthday, she would have been 38 years old.  As the weeks and months go past and over a year since her passing it is heart-warming to know that so many people continue to fundraise in her memory and for the charity she personally asked us to support.

With colleague donations this far we have been able work with the charity to support two amazing projects.

The first is ‘Little Inky Feet’.  Money raised will fund kits which will give families the opportunity to have hand and foot prints of their tiny baby.  The hospital have explained that this helps all families to bond with their baby at a time when the future can be uncertain
or indeed simply frightening to touch their tiny baby who may seem so fragile.  The specialist nurses will provide the support to parents and help them create a memory for future.  The neonatal units of the Royal Hospital for Children, Princess Royal Maternity and the Royal Alexandra Hospital would be provided with enough kits to support them over 2 years.

The second project is ‘Expressing Mothers’ and this is the opportunity to support 500 families, again for the three hospitals over 2 years, providing essential cool bags that give mums the opportunity to express their own milk and take it to the hospital to be given to their baby.  Currently without the cool bags the babies rely on donor milk.  Evidence shows that this would be beneficial for both mum and baby and therefore this is a very worthwhile project worthy of our support.

In both projects we have asked that the hospital consider a way of noting within the kits and the bags that they have been supplied by the fund in Jen’s memory.  This will go some way to ensuring Jen’s wish to support is evident throughout the neonatal units for some time to come.

We will continue to work hard to keep Jen’s memory alive and continue to be grateful for all of your donations.
