Barry's London-Edinburgh-London 2017

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
On Sunday 30th July 2017, I took on one of Britain’s greatest cycling challenges.
Taking place only once every four years, the London-Edinburgh-London (LEL) bike ride saw me cycle 1,441 km (900 miles) from London to Edinburgh and back to London, in only 107 hours.
That's an average of 288km (180 miles) each day, for five consecutive days!
The route passed through an incredible range of scenery; from tough climbs in the Pennines and Scottish Lowlands, to the fens of Cambridgeshire and Lincolnshire.
I crossed the Humber Bridge, I saw the world famous estate of Castle Howard - and - I passed through countless pretty English and Scottish villages along the route,
The toughest part of the challenge was battling with the elements for the last two days, whilst seriously sleep deprived. The weather brutal at times; with lashings of rain and headwinds that were gusting up to 40mph across the Fens!
Having lived to tell the tale, my aim is to raise as much money as possible for Trinity Hospice & Palliative Care Services.
Trinity provide compassionate care for the Fylde Coast, for those on the journey towards the end of life.
For the past 30 years they have provided excellence in specialist palliative care and have a huge impact in the community, touching the lives of around 8,000 local people every year.
Open 24 hours a day, every day of the year, Trinity are proud of their modern facilities and of high standards. But they are much more than a set of buildings – their nursing teams work at the hospital and out in the community, day and night, covering every part of the Fylde Coast.
