ARC FUNDRAISING CONTINUES AT PACE - Easter 2019

Dr. Barry McKenna, Senior Partner and keen sportsman from the Axminster Medical Practice and Founding Trustee  of Arc will be taking to the water once more .. This will be the 11th consecutive year that he and his rowing partner Gary Wakley  have undertaken the challenge of paddling in the Devizes to Westminster International Canoe Race. The race takes place on Easter Saturday.  This historic race that started back in 1948 is a gruelling 125 mile course which is rowed non-stop. The course involves the crew carrying their boats around 77 locks along the way - the record stands at some 15 hours and 34 minutes! The race is a severe test of skill, physical and mental stamina and planning which produces a memorable sense of achievement for those successfully completing it. Barry and Gary are supported along the way by their families, as they have done for the last 10 years.

Every year Dr Barry McKenna does this to raise funding for Arc and has raised just over £18,000 whilst paddling some 1,375 miles over the years - (equivalent of paddling to Gibraltar!)

Dr McKenna said, "Every penny raised directly benefits local people who are trying to adjust to very painful life events or challenging diagnoses. The charity Arc puts recovery at the heart of everything they do and promotes hope at incredibly difficult times. Arc receives no funding from the NHS, the survival of Arc depends on your donations. I hope that once again I can rely on your help to raise the much needed funding. This year it would be great if we could raise £2000 - thus making our contribution to Arc at a nice round £20, 000 !''
