Story
While running 10km on the 9th of July may not seem like the greatest challenge, it holds a deep significance for me and my family as I raise funds for the Twins Trust.
My wife Sam fell pregnant at the end of 2022 and we were ecstatic to find out we were expecting identical twin boys!
On December 21, 2022, we sadly lost one of our identical twins, Ace, at 17 weeks pregnant.
Both twins were battling Twin to Twin Transfusion Syndrome (TTTS), a condition that occurs in 1 in 6 identical twin pregnancies.
Surgeries for TTTS and TAPS have an 80% survival rate of at least one twin; and 60% survival rate of both twins - statistics you’d choose not to face.
Despite two fetoscopic laser surgeries for TTTS and TAPS, a blood transfusion and all-around exceptional care provided by the Kings College Fetal Medicine Team and Chelsea & Westminster Hospital, Ace couldn't overcome the challenges.
During this difficult time, the Twins Trust offered us advice and support. They are dedicated to investing in research on TTTS, TAPS and other complex pregnancies, providing hope and assistance to families like ours.
Our ray of light emerged on the 11th of April. Baby Finnegan, 3lbs 6oz, arrived seven weeks prematurely and spent the first month of his life in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Seeing him thrive is so special and we are beyond grateful.
By donating to this cause, you'll be supporting the Twins Trust's mission to advance research on TTTS and complicated pregnancies. Together, we can honor Ace's memory and ensure that other families facing similar challenges receive the guidance and support they need.
Thank you for considering a donation! Bart, Sam and Finnegan
