13th April 2011 - Walking 90 miles, non stop, in less than 30 hours - sounds easy (on paper!!!)
Wayne Vass, Marc Johnson, Steve Garrett, Colin Nightingale, Paul Wase, Steve Kelly, Paul Rennie-Smith, Paul Stephenson, Craig Parry and Al Davis from the Bowman and Tactical Communications & Information Systems (BATCIS) Team need your support to raise £5000 for COMBAT STRESS 'The Enemy Within Appeal'.
COMBAT STRESS is the UK's leading military charity specialising in the treatment of service-related mental illness's such as PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) and depression .Visit their website for further details on the charities work and 'The Enemy Within Appeal' (http://www.combatstress.org.uk)
The challenge is to walk 90 miles from Newcastle to Carlisle following the course of Hadrians Wall without pausing for more than a quick meal or drink, no sleeping or changovers allowed!!!
The support crew, Rob Wood, Keiren Bingle and Dave Husein, will be following the team closely throughout the day and night, without them the challenge would not even get of the ground.
We have already begun our training in earnest (photos to be updated shortly) and would greatly appreciate any donation you wish to give, the more we can raise the more motivation we will have to complete the challenge.
Update - 22/03/11
Completed an 18 Mile training session over the Malvern Hills on Wed 16th Mar, we proudly wore our Combat Stress T-Shirts and even managed to take donations from the general public which was very encouraging.
We are off on a 30 Mile walk tommorow to continue to build up our stamina. We will be following the 'Severn Way' from Gloucester to Worcester and hoping to complete it in under 9 and a half hours.
Update - 26/03/11
Completed the 31 miles today within the target time. Everyone is aching and the size of the challenge ahead is really starting to hit home. Only 3 weeks to go, more training required!!!
