Story
One of us loves walking, and one of us loves a challenge (up to
you to guess which is which!). As a mother and daughter team we hope to complement each other and succeed in completing The Coastal Freedom Trail – one of the most travelled routes across the Pyrenees used by the men, women and children attempting to flee the Nazis during WW2. This 72 kilometre journey over four days reaches altitudes of up to 700m and we will be doing this is in temperatures of 30 degrees plus.In doing so we hope to raise loads of money for Camp Simcha, a charity we both love and believe in.
Our son/brother was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia when he was four. He underwent three years of intense chemotherapy. In that time many families feel the strain of hospital life, lack of family time and normality to such an extent that they slowly but surely fall apart. Parents are not there for their children and siblings fight for badly needed attention. Camp Simcha though held us together and changed what could have been dark times into years which had fun and happiness brought into them whenever was possible. Pini is now twenty and healthy but we, as a family appreciate all that Camp Simcha did for us and by staying involved in the charity see how they are continuing their amazing work and now help over 250 families like us.
Camp Simcha exists to support and improve the quality of life for families in the UK where a child is suffering from cancer, chronic conditions and other serious childhood illness. It does this by knowing that laughter is the best medicine- providing a range of fun-filled retreats, activities and camps for all the family. In addition, its 24/7 support services for the sick child, his/her parents and siblings
enable the family to function successfully whilst undergoing intense regimes of treatment.
So, as we hike around Hampstead and tone up in the gym, we ask you
to dig deep and sponsor us and in that way support all those kids who need your help and give us the boost we need to keep going till the end.
Many thanks!!
Rina and Batya xx
