Hi all
Currently, there is a GLOBAL HEALTH CRISIS IN STROKE with the number of people having and dying from strokes across the world is increasing, especially in developing countries like Malawi.
The effects of stroke can be devastating, resulting in death or disability, especially in developing countries like Malawi where stroke is the third leading cause of death. In Malawi, stroke most commonly occurs when people are in their 40s or 50s and providing for their families.
We as a team contribute to help prevent strokes day in day out for patients in the U.K. Unfortunately there are places that don’t have the facilities to support these patient - this is why we as a regional team would like to support the build of the Malawi stroke unit where they will be working on the whole stroke pathway from prevention to rehabilitation in a way that is culturally appropriate and sensitive to the limited resources of this very poor country. The potential to transform outcomes in Malawi via this approach is enormous.
Currently the need is to raise £80,0000 and UCLH have raised about £46,000 already through different fundraising events.
To support this cause we will be aiming to collate 5429miles through the year as a regional team (approx 50 of us) as a team - this will be through walking, running, swimming or cycling . We will update miles achieved regularly so that you can follow our journey. This event will start in January 2020 and run throughout the year till the end of November 2020
We will also have some fundraisers throughout the year.
Our ask is to support and donate generously to help the people in Malawi and locally to prevent and/or rehabilitate those stroke patients and help them achieve a better quality of life.
