Story

Like all good ideas, this one started with an innocent conversation.  Having completed a 100km Ultra marathon on the Pembrokeshire coastal path in 2021 with a few of our VMware colleagues, what could we do next?!

Back to the innocent conversation which took place between Dan Cooper and I in July last year.  To keep it short, 100 was the number and we both agreed that we had a similar desire (rather stupidly) to attempt a 100 mile Ultra marathon.  Without thinking we signed up for the Centurion South Downs Way 100m Ultra!!  We then realised that to be accepted to race we would need to run a 50 mile qualification race beforehand.  We quickly signed up for a 50 mile Ultra in Nov 2021.  A little underprepared we completed it and qualified for the big one.

What is the task…?? Winchester to Eastbourne - 100 miles (161km), 12,700 ft (3800m) in elevation, all within 30 hours...SIMPLES!

After 6 months of training we are fast approaching the big day, 11th June 2022.

Having completed a couple of recce’s of the route we felt it was a difficult enough challenge to participate in to raise money for a charity.  After serious contemplation we both agreed to support a lesser known charity to support our military veterans, Veterans in Action (VIA).  What is the ask?  Please sponsor Dan and I in our attempt to complete the 100 mile Ultra for VIA.

VIA are a UK based charity that helps veterans who have suffered the effects of war or who have found the transition to civilian life difficult.

With funds raised, VIA can continue to provide long term projects that enable veterans to grow at their own pace working alongside their peers, alleviating severe stress and anxiety. The support that VIA provides helps to rebuild veterans confidence, self-esteem and self-belief and facilitates enhanced communication through their participation on projects.

Thank you so much for your support.
