This year has been really tough. Coronavirus has hit unemployed, wounded veterans the hardest and will continue to have a lasting effect. The Poppy Factory has helped veterans move into more than 250 jobs since the start of the pandemic, but fundraising is harder than ever and they need help to continue this vital work. That's why Team BBLR are challenging ourselves and fundraising throughout May as part of The Poppy Factory's Great May Escape campaign.

The BBLR Great May Escape

We will be travelling across Europe on our virtual
challenge! With the Poppy theme in mind we will be visiting some historic military sites across Europe.

We'll be getting out and about, walking, running swimming or whatever takes our fancy, clocking up the miles to help us get to our destinations. Our Team Managers will be totalling our weekly mileage and we will plot our journey too.

The route – 2402 miles!

We will start our journey from the National Memorial Arboretum, calling at The Cenotaph in London before heading to the white cliffs of Dover, crossing to Calais and then touring Normandy and visiting the sites  of the D Day landings. We will then make our way to The Somme before heading to the fields of Flanders.  We then then make the journey across Germany to Poland to visit Stalag Luft, home of a Prisoner of War camp which was where an audacious plan to escape was hatched, a story which was captured in the film…..you guessed it….The Great Escape!  We will then head back through Europe, across the Channel and make our way back to the National Memorial Arboretum.

Update! 18th May

Together we have clocked up 1245 miles so far, roughly half of our target distance!! We made light work of the UK and we’re deep in Europe making good progress towards Stalag Luft.

The damp weather isn't stopping us from getting out and about. We have 2 weeks left so plenty of time to rack up the miles needed an raise funds to hit our £1000 target! Thank you to everyone who has donated so far!
