Story
I am running the London Marathon in memory of my Mum.
A bit of background on Mum's story - she was diagnosed with a brain tumour in July 2019 and immediately underwent brain surgery. Mum survived the surgery with no complications, then began a course of chemotherapy and radiotherapy which concluded in late 2019. Mum's condition deteriorated and in April 2020 scans confirmed that the cancer had regrown.
Mum then started on an advanced trial drug which was effective in restricting further cancer growth for another two years. However, Mum's quality of life was severely diminished at this stage - her mobility was severely limited and she had trouble recognising family members. After a long battle, Mum unfortunately then passed away at home at in September 2022
Mum was always a very positive person and got a heap of joy out of watching us kids be active and playing sport. She always managed to put others before herself and that selflessness always resonated with me - I have often shared the story of how she would pick up my washing out of my car with a spare key at footy training on a Monday night and then drop the same clothes back all washed and ironed on the Thursday because she knew I didn't have much time between work and footy.
My running journey started during a similar period in early 2020 and doing the Marathon for Brain Tumour Research just seems like the right thing to do.
If you have the means to donate, it would be much appreciated - thank you for your support!
