Story

Beach Baby is a modern day drama that follows Ethan & Chloe, a young couple whose relationship is tested when they find out that Ethan has lung cancer and Chloe is pregnant. We follow their journey together as we see them trying to deal with this sudden change in both their lives.

Beach Baby began back in 2018. I had just found out at the time that my grandfather was diagnosed with cancer. When I went to see my grandfather my cousin was there and she had brought her newborn son to see him. When I saw my grandfather hold him, to me I saw life and death all at once. I wanted to make this film for him and for many families around the world who have had to be in that difficult position. Its themes are around loss and struggle while also about loving and acceptance.

My biggest inspiration for making this film was Spike Jonze’s 2013 film “Her”. I wanted to try and tell a story at times through visuals, I wanted to show times of happiness and times of sadness showcasing the ups and downs of life. My other inspiration was my loved ones who I have lost from cancer. I wanted to show my grandfather the film however he sadly passed away before the film was completed.

We shot Beach Baby over 7 days in 2019. I was extremely lucky to have such an incredible cast and crew be a part of this experience. Shane Brohan and Marie Devine gave everything they could for their performances in this film. We also ran an IndieGoGo campaign to raise funds for festivals and bring in a composer. By the end of March this year we successfully reached our £500 goal.

I really hope people enjoy this film as I have poured my heart and soul into this project for almost 3 years now and couldn’t be more proud of what myself and my crew accomplished. I feel extremely lucky to have worked with such a dedicated cast and crew. I also want to thank everyone that has contributed to this film through IndieGoGo and to my friends and family.
