We have decided to run the London Marathon for Leukaemia Care in April 2026. Emma was diagnosed with Acute Myloid Leukaemia in February 2024, and we had no clue what we were dealing with. It’s a very aggressive blood cancer and needed very aggressive treatment to save Emma’s life, which was a huge emotional and physical rollercoaster for Emma, her husband Dave and son Oli (Bea's boyfriend). It has been really tough, there’s no other word for it. And the journey continues as Emma is still in treatment.

So, Bea and Alex have decided to run a marathon and raise money for Leukaemia Care. We have seen first-hand how meaningful and important this charity is. They have completely changed Emma’s experience for the better- from explaining confusing diagnoses, offering therapy, medical support and a buddy scheme- what was a really scary time became more manageable for Emma and her family. Blood cancer is quite rare and therefore can be a lonely experience. But it hasn’t been for Emma, because of Leukaemia Care.

We know this will mean so much to Emma and Leukaemia care, which is one of the lesser known cancer charities, but the work they do is so crucial. Training for a marathon we know is going to be seriously tough, painful, and require a lot of mental resilience. But it is nothing compared to what Emma has been through, what she’s overcome and continues to overcome.

Leukaemia Care is a national charity dedicated to ensuring that anyone affected by blood cancer receives the right information, advice and support. Around 34,000 people are affected by blood cancer each year in the UK and we're here to support them through their diagnosis, treatment and beyond.
