Story

I thought it was about time I did one of my races for charity again (it isn't all about me after all! ;-)) so on 2 October I will be taking part in the first Blenheim Palace Half-Marathon for British Heart Foundation.

This is an event organised by the British Heart Foundation and - (along with the fact that the London Kilomathon was cancelled) - this was my reason behind choosing it as my next race.   As some of you will know, heart disease is and has been a huge problem for my family and I lost my uncle Ronnie a few years ago to it.  A dear friend of mine also lost his younger (and indeed young) brother just over a year ago and I am dedicating this to their memory whilst also hoping to raise a bit of money along the way to help the fight against heart disease – one of Britains’ biggest killers.

Any amount no matter how small will be greatly appreciated – I know the number of charity events out there is huge and you will no doubt have many people asking for your money at some point or another so I really am grateful for any support I can get. Plus,  you have my word that if I get into London again in 2012, I won't be asking for money!

Ps – I am also rather relieved not to have the pressure of a PB, as training has not been as strict as usual this time around….! (;-))

Yours  with love and hopefulness,

 Clare (Bear) xx

For your interest and to encourage you to part with your hard-earned pennies, I thought I would include a few pieces about this fantastic charity from their website:

Our vision is a world where people don't die prematurely from heart disease.

We'll achieve this through pioneering research, vital prevention activity and ensuring quality care and support for everyone living with heart disease.

Within a generation, we aim to:

·          reduce cardiovascular disease in the UK to one of the lowest levels in Europe.

Within a decade, we aim to:

·          halve the number of people under 75 who die from cardiovascular disease

·          make sure at least two thirds of people under 75 survive a heart attack

·          reduce heart-related deaths in all UK local authority areas to the current level in South East England or below

·          reverse the increase in childhood obesity.
