Beautiful SWAN Christmas Beauty Raffle · 24 December 2016

We are a national alliance of over 220 charities and patient support groups. Together we advocate and campaign for the 3.5 million people in the UK with a rare, genetic or undiagnosed condition - improving diagnosis, care coordination and treatment options. We run Rare Disease UK and SWAN UK.

Story

Maxwell my beautiful SWAN. There's nothing that ever prepares you to find out your child might be a bit different or normal from other children. The first thing you wanna do is cry after that it's ask questions. The trouble is when your child has an undiagnosed condition there are no answers. You may never know if they will walk or even talk it's just a guessing game.

Max will be eight on his birthday this year he still can't walk or talk  He has serve and complex learning difficulties. We live each day as it comes and I am proud of everything he achieves. Max's smile speaks a thousand words.

SWAN UK have been a life line. They put  you in touch with other families who totally understand our everyday battles. Sometimes there's a massive sense of loneliness and isolation caring for a disabled child. Being able to talk to someone about how you feel without feeling guilty is often a godsend. The family days and parent meeting give so much support to people like us that would otherwise be unavailable to access this kind of information. The main goal of SWAN UK is there valuable research working along side Genectic Allance UK's aim to ensure high quality services,  information and support are provided to all that need it.  They actively campaign on issues of policy and practice to influence governments, policy makers, industry and care providers like the NHS. They are the voice for people like me to help towards a better future for Max and so many children like him.

I in 25 children in the UK have a genetic condition at birth.                                         Approximately 6000 disabled children each year are born with a condition that will remain undiagnosed.

£10.00 will allow SWAN UK to send out five information packs to raise awareness of undiagnosed genetic conditions.

£25.00 will cover the cost of sending balloons to a sick child in hospital.

£100.00 will allow SWAN UK to send information packs to hospitals to share with families.

£500.00 will cover the cost of a party for 15 families.

£5,000 will enable SWAN UK to host a funday for their members to attend.
