The weekend of 4th February 2023 I’m going to be attempting two different challenges in an attempt to raise money for Rape Crisis Scotland. On Saturday 4th February I will be attempting the Edinburgh winter warmer half marathon alongside my lovely friend Amy, my dad and our friend Doogie, and the following day I will be taking on the 7 hills of Edinburgh challenge. Taking on roughly 50km in one weekend will be challenging both mentally and physically but it’s a challenge I’m willing to take on to raise awareness of such an important charity. This is a charity very close to my heart which helped me through one of the darkest times in my life. The work that Rape Crisis Scotland do is extremely important in educating on the impact of sexual violence, campaigning for better justice and community responses and above all, providing support to survivors of sexual assault and violence. I contacted Rape Crisis Scotland in August this year seeking specialist help after the incidents that I have mentioned above. If it weren’t for them, I would not be in the position to be able to post this today. I’m not looking for sympathy or attention, just to raise awareness of the incredible work that this charity do and the fact that sexual assault is far more common than we like to admit. If by posting this I make one person feel that they are not alone, then I have succeeded. I know times are tough just now but if you have any spare money at all, any donations would go a long way in allowing this charity to keep doing the life-changing work that they do.
