Story
On May 8th 2008 I received a phone call from my mother - "It's Becca, she's dead, he's killed her"
My beautiful, fun-loving and talented sister was brutally murdered at the hands of her partner due to Domestic Violence. Since that day not one day passes where I don't miss her or think about such a tragic and unnecessary loss of a sister, a mother, niece, aunt, cousin and friend. I have campaigned against Domestic Abuse and supported Domestic Abuse charities, not only to raise funds but also to create more awareness and keep my beloved sister's memory alive. Domestic Abuse of which there are many forms is not acceptable under any circumstance.
Her murderer was sentenced to Life Imprisonment and received a 15 year and 10 month tariff - This term raises additional thoughts!
I am doing the annual Becca's Walk - Taking Steps Against Domestic Abuse on May 9th 2015 at York. I am doing this walk for Becca, I don't want her death to be in vain and I will do whatever I can to raise awareness and prevent a needless murder happening again.
I am fully supporting IDAS (Independent Domestic Abuse Service), this charity does extraordinary things for victims of Domestic Abuse and will support any victim either in person or they will advise anybody who has a concern about a relative, friend or colleague and point them in the right direction to safeguard there future well being, protecting them from the horrors of Domestic Abuse which are often regarded as a silent crime in for too many households.
