The big brain tumour trek.

Story

our walk has been put back to 10th to 11th September 2021. Bev and I are still needing sponsorship. If you have not sponsored us yet, you still have time. Thanks in advance, all donations are greatly appreciated. After having a seizure in April 2011 I was diagnosed with having a brain tumour in august 2011, after numerous appointments and scans I had brain surgery to remove my tumour in June 2012. This was successful and they managed to remove all the tumour but I still had to go back for regular scans to check everything was still ok they started at 3 months, then 6 months then yearly.

Fast forward to 2015 I fell pregnant with my first child. After having my beautiful daughter, I went for a scan in 2016 and they called me back for a meeting with my consultant who told me there had been some changes, they were unsure of the changes at first so called me back for more scans over the year to keep an eye on the changes and to get a better understanding of what was happening. 23rd December 2017 I was told my tumour had returned, but this time it was growing quicker and thicker than the last. January 2018 I was booked in for my second brain tumour operation to have it removed. Unfortunately, because of where this tumour had grown they couldn’t remove it all this time as it had attached around an artery on my brain. I was then given radiotherapy 5 days a week for 6 weeks followed by an alternate monthly chemotherapy treatment. This was to stunt the growth of the tumour and keep it at bay.

I still have 6 monthly scans to keep an eye on it, so far so good the radiotherapy and chemotherapy have done the trick and my tumour is stable and I am able to lead a full and normal life.

50 miles. 2 days. On foot. It's an incredibly hard challenge, but every step we take and every penny we raise will support the brain tumour community. We are raising funds for the charity, brainstrust. Throughout the pandemic, brainstrust has seen a increase in the need for their services - people who have heard the words 'you have a brain tumour' and are in desperate need of support. You can read more about their vital work at brainstrust.org.uk. We have chosen to take on this epic challenge to help beat brain cancer, and we’d be grateful for any support you are able to give. Your kindness and generosity will help to ensure that brainstrust can continue to be there for the 60,000 people affected by the devastation of a brain tumour diagnosis here in the UK. Thank you!
