Story
Myself (24) and my brother (25) both have Long QT syndrome and have dealt with this since birth. The result of this condition is that our hearts could stop at any second due to an irregular heart beat as a result of an electrolyte deficiency (little more complicated than it sounds). Unfortunately at 2 years old our Mother died of the same heart condition and has been a struggle over time to accept the cards we have been dealt. Having to grow up and consider each decision and in some cases miss out on opportunities as a result being isolated from other young people, groups and prior to adulthood school activities and events. We have both come to peace with our lives but I feel it is important to give back and support those who are unable to make similar choices and in some ways grow up which we are both grateful for. Each month I raise money for different charities and I have decided to show my support and strength regardless of my condition by completing a BHF swim from Bournemouth Pier to Boscombe (1.5 miles) on July 1st. I hope that people will support this choice and donate however much. Supporting people like myself who thanks to Dr's, family and the BHF community have encouraged and fight on a daily basis to give people a chance at life and the confidence to achieve their goals, experiencing life for what it is.
