Story
This may be a shock to some but last summer I was given some news that was pretty hard to swallow... I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer but thanks to the incredible NHS, especially teams at St. George's and the two Royal Marsdens, after a few months of treatment it was gone without a macroscopic trace. All that was left was a small scar (which you can barely see now), a tiny bit of radiation (unfortunately no superpowers gained) and a lot of guilt. It may sound strange coming from a cancer survivor but yeah, I feel guilty. I feel guilty that so many cancers don't have that go-to treatment like mine. I feel guilty that more cancer patients don't survive.
This is why i've chosen to run a marathon for Cancer Research UK. I will always have so much appreciation for the NHS staff, the Macmillan nurses, the Teenage Cancer Trust, CLIC Sargent and the many others that had a part in me getting better (friends and family, don't worry, you're up there). But it's CR UK that discovered the science behind part of my treatment, it's CR UK that fund trials, treatments, services and it's CR UK that ensure, when they can, those medicines get to patients. In short, CR UK saves lives.
So please donate what you can so we can all beat cancer sooner. Thank u xox
