Story

Our Mum, Becky Best passed away on 2nd October 2019, the morning of my (Nell, her middle daughter's) wedding day. Mum had a short but tough battle with an aggressive terminal brain cancer called Glioblastoma Multiforme.

One day in June 2019, mum suddenly felt unwell and was a bit forgetful, a few hours later after being told to rest by the GP, she couldn't speak and didnt know who we were. After a trip to hospital for a suspected stroke, a brain scan showed there was an extremely large tumour present. It took a few weeks and a craniotomy operation to discover that the tumour was in fact the highest grade of brain tumour and the prognosis was not good.

Mum was determined to fight as best she could and endured a whole cycle of 15 radiotherapy sessions (3hr round trips to preston and back, 5 days a week for 3 weeks) alongside 2 weeks of chemo, which was awful for her but she battled on.

By the middle of her radiotherapy treatment we noticed things that couldn't be caused by the treatment and we realised that that tumour was growing. By her last radio session Mum was incredibly weak and we knew that the extra time that the treatment was aiming for was not to be.

Three weeks after finishing radiotherapy and her condition rapidly declining, mum passed away peacefully knowing that we all loved her and had said goodbye.

In Mum's memory, we are fundraising to help the Brain Tumour Charity research brain tumours, in particular Glioblastoma Multiforme, the most common braint tumour in adults but also the most aggressive and least treatable. The charity also provide masses of support to patients and their families, and they continue to support us.

Mum was an incredibly kind person who would always put herself before others. She would love to know that people had donated to a charity that help people like her.

As a family we are requesting no flowers but donations to The Brain Tumour Charity instead if you would like to support us. Please donate as little or as much as you like, any amount is appreciated.

Thanks from all of us

Camille, Thomas, Nell and Harry Best
