Becky's Walking 1 million steps over 3 months!

Walking 1 million steps over 3 months! · 17 October 2022
Over the course of November, December and January, I will be walking 1 million steps. This averages out to 10,870 steps a day.
I am doing it to raise money for an amazing charity, The Sophie Lancaster Foundation. Sophie Lancaster was murdered in 2007 for being different. On 11th August, Sophie and her boyfriend were attacked by 5 boys because they were goths because they were 'different'. Sophie died in hospital on 24th August 2007. She was only 20 years old.
What happened to Sophie is something which has stayed with me since it happened in 2007. As a fellow 'weird' kid, I was, unsurprisingly, bullied throughout school. It was thankfully only ever name-calling and threats and it never reached the terrifying and tragic way in which Sophie was murdered. But I was scared every day. The way in which I was treated had a deep effect on my self-worth and my mental health.
I am raising money for The Sophie Lancaster Foundation because nobody should be scared to be themselves or have to face torment for being themselves. The foundation is helping to create a world where this is the reality for everyone.
I've chosen to do it over Autumn/Winter because it will also be a challenge for me. I become very much a hermit at this time of year so I want to challenge myself. I know it will also be good for me, mentally, as nature really helps me.
I will be recording as I go and I will create a weekly vlog which I will share on my Instagram - @BeckyHandleyArt - so you can keep up with how it's going. :)
Thank you so much.
Becky
