Story

Welcome to my fundraising page for the Mighty Hike Half Marathon! My mind wanted to take on the full marathon but my legs said no, so here I am!

I am the type of person to drive around a car park to find the closest spot to the entrance and I somehow thought it would be a brilliant idea to walk over 13 miles. Their skittle stops may have enticed me but what really convinced me to bite the bullet was the fact all of the guys wanted to come along!

So why Macmillan? Back in 2015, my grandfather was diagnosed with Bladder Cancer. After discovering he only had one kidney, it became a challenge to feel optimistic. He had what felt like endless hospital appointments and towards the end, he was at home in his living room where he felt the most comfortable. Macmillan was there for him and my family and provided the best end of life care we could have asked for.

Unfortunately, in 2019, two of my great-aunties had been diagnosed with breast cancer, and shortly after that, my Mother had been told she was to undergo radiotherapy for the exact same reason. She had just recovered from surgery to remove a cancerous tumour on her face, and now she had to face ongoing treatment at the scariest time of all; Lockdown.

Although it is not 100% guaranteed that Cancer can or will be passed down genetically, the statistics of every 1 in 2 people being diagnosed with cancer is far too high for anyone to feel comfortable with. We will need Macmillan's services throughout our lifetime and I am hoping your little amount of donations will make a huge impact.

I want to push myself in the name of Macmillan to inherit the strength that the nurses and my mum has shown throughout the years. I am walking the distance so that Macmillan can go the distance.
