Beer to Lyme Trek for Thomas

SEAN OSHEA is raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support

Team: Beer to Lyme Trek for Thomas

“BEER TO LYME WALK FOR THOMAS”

on 2 November 2024

The number of people diagnosed with cancer is growing, we're doing whatever it takes to help more people with cancer get the best care the UK has to offer, whoever and wherever they are. To donate, volunteer, raise money or campaign with us, call 0300 1000 200 or visit macmillan.org.uk

Story

We will be undertaking a 15 mile coastal park trek to drum up individual donations ending in Lyme Regis on the busiest night (fireworks night) where we will be walking around asking for donations also.

Please see below for the touching words written by Ross in the initial campaign and a little backstory about Thomas and his brave journey so far.....

Thomas is not your average nine-year-old boy. He's a fighter, battling against a highly aggressive form of brain tumour called Diffuse Midline Glioma (DMG / DIPG). It has unfortunately spread to a few areas of his brain. As heartbreaking as it sounds, the average life expectancy for this type of tumour is less than 12 months.

But in this time, we have an opportunity to make a difference in his life and the lives of his family members Gary, Louise, Charlie and Josh.

Imagine being in their shoes - balancing the demands of work, constant trips from Bournemouth to London (where he is having extensive radiotherapy in the hope of prolonging his life) whilst trying to pay the bills and bring up the other two boys Charlie and Josh while cherishing the precious time they have left with their beloved son.

Yet, amidst the turmoil, there's a glimmer of hope, a chance to give Thomas the gift he deserves : a one last family trip of a lifetime. We can help for his big wish of an ultimate Disney holiday.

However, Gary and Louise can't do it alone. Your donation can make a world of difference in ensuring that Thomas's final months are filled with love, laughter, and unforgettable memories.

By contributing to this cause, you're not just funding a holiday of a lifetime; you're providing Gary, Louise, Charlie and Josh with the financial support they need to take time off work, get their bills paid and be by Thomas's side every step of the way. Your generosity can ease the burden of medical bills and other expenses related to this nightmare they find themselves in, allowing the family to focus on what truly matters - being together.

Think of the joy on Thomas's face as he experiences the holiday of his dreams, surrounded by his family, creating memories that will last their lifetime. Your donation can make that dream a reality, giving Thomas and his loved ones moments of happiness and respite from the challenges they face.

No donation is too small. Every pound counts towards reaching our goal of £30,000, ensuring that Gary and Louise can afford the time off work and the expenses towards Thomas's dreams.

Together we can make a difference and give Thomas the gift of a lifetime. Together we can achieve this!

Let's rally around this courageous young boy and his family, showing them that they're not alone in this journey. Your donation can bring comfort, support, and a ray of hope during this difficult time. Thank you for your generosity and compassion.

Unfortunately, only last week, they have been informed that the cancer has spread from his brain into his spine, and they have been informed that they only have a few weeks left with Thomas….it really is the most heartbreaking news.

What was initially intended as a fundraiser for Thomas to have a magical Christmas will now be continuing on as a fundraiser to raise funds for funeral costs and also money to allow Gary, Louise, Charlie & Josh to go away this Christmas as it will be a very hard one for them as a family.

We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for taking the time to read this and any donation is greatly appreciated
