Story
Lucy Dewar, beloved wife of Jamie, devoted mother of Phoebe and Daisy, precious daughter of Neil and Caro, much loved sister of Rory and Rupert and treasured, darling friend of so, so many, died on 15 August 2009.
Lucy was ill with cancer for nearly 4 years. During this time her selflessness and good humour enabled her and others to cope. Her positive outlook strengthened others. She sought to protect everyone from her illness.
Lucy wanted to spend her final days at home. Jamie ensured this happened. He filled the house with loving friends and family, food and drink. He catered to her every need and honoured her every wish. Jamie's love for Lucy carried her through the darkest times.
Daisy and Phoebe showed Mummy the cakes, painted stones, pictures and cards they made. They brought her orange squash and sparkling water and snuggled with her, sharing stories and kisses.
Caro nursed Lucy throughout with devotion, strength and tenderness.
Arusha, Belinda, Colleen, Di, Neil, Rory and Rupert looked after the house, Lucy, Jamie, Daisy and Phoebe, and each other.
Jo, Suzanne, Charlotte and Sylvia provided home-made meals, bagfuls of shopping and ceaseless support. Jo and Suzanne gave Lucy a very special pampering session the day before she died.
Claudia helped us when we needed her most in the final hours of Lucy's life.
Rich, Graham and Darryl helped Jamie the night after Lucy died.
Lucy was able to be at home as a result of the unfailing support from Jane Casterton, Macmillan nurse, and the Palliative Care team from The Margaret Centre at Whipps Cross Hospital. Jane supported Lucy and her family throughout the last 4 years.
Jenny and Debra are among the many, many people who offered to help out with Lucy's family and the house throughout Lucy's illness.
Lucy's funeral and celebration of her life took place at 4.00 p.m. on Wednesday 26th August at the City of London Crematorium.
Lucy's family have asked for no flowers. If you would like to make a donation instead to Macmillan Cancer Support, please do so.
