I'm doing something for people affected by breast cancer by having a 'Celebration of Life' Breast Cancer Care Fundraiser.
The Breast Cancer Care Charity is very close to my heart. In September 2017 I was unfortunately diagnosed with my 3rd Breast Cancer, Stage 4, with metastases to my liver and sternum.
I've been on chemo since December 2017. They've already tried two different types, which have not totally stopped the cancer progression. I’ve been offered and I have now accepted a place on a clinical trial at St. Barts Hospital using IV immunotherapy and anticancer tablets. It may or may not slow things down a little, but it’s worth the try.
Being Stage 4 or 'terminal', is only treatable, for a while with the right chemo/treatment, but this is only until that particular medication no longer works; this staging is sadly incurable. Stage 4 can't be fixed!
My family had already just gone through the devastation of Matts Acute Myeloid Leukaemia diagnosis in 2008, when my own particular cancer nightmare began 2 years later in December 2010, 9 years ago.
In this time I have had 8 surgeries/procedures to put me back together again, to fix me, to try to stop the cancer spreading or reoccurring and had more tears, hair loss, chemotherapy, steroids, bathroom visits, needle pricks, x-rays, scans, pain medications and hospital corridors than I could ever wish to remember.
The chemo of 6 cycles in 2011 put me into A&E 3 times, once for a week. So frightening.
And this time around, I had a terrifying hospital admission at Easter in April 2017, with two pulmonary embolisms, pneumonia, heart failure and sepsis, which were caused solely by a weakened body due to the cancer and because of the chemo treatment being administered to try to save/prolong me. A vicious circle !
Breast Cancer is killing Nans, Mums, Aunts, Sisters, Nieces, Cousins and friends. Men too !
Please help me raise money for the research in finding a cure and to give support to those dealing with this horrid disease.
Personally I would like to save another family from going through what we have. The effect Cancer has had on our family is devastating.
All my love and my grateful thanks x
