Story

Brainwave is a charity very close to our hearts.

Ellie was born with an extremely rare genetic disorder - chromosome 5q35.3 deletion.

This impacted Ellie from the moment she was born.  She was severely delayed in all areas, even the smallest of things we all look forward to seeing our babies do; that first smile, being able to sit up unaided, and even the simple act of holding and playing with a toy.

She developed pneumonia at just 6 weeks old which resulted in her being blue lighted to the London Evelina Childrens Hospital.  She spent three weeks there where machines breathed for her, intubated on a ventilator with a collapsed lung.

But, in true Ellie style, she bounced back and showed us just how strong and determined she is.

Ellie has recently started school at a specialist provision and is still amazing us and the staff with how well she is doing!
She has global development delay, Sensory Processing Disorder, slow growth, on ASD pathway, and poor fine and gross motor skills.

Ellie has been attending Brainwave South East for nearly four years, and the help we have received from the wonderful staff has been amazing!

They have given us programmes and strategies to help Ellie in all areas, I honestly believe her development has improved so well because of the support we have received from Brainwave!

Brainwave believes in a world where every child with disabilities reaches their potential. Their multidisciplinary team of therapists take the time to fully assess each individual child and their family’s needs in the relaxed, fun and friendly atmosphere of their fully equipped Brainwave Centres. They develop a structured and bespoke Therapy Programme which fits in with family life and helps children achieve greater independence. With your support, they can help more families find the guidance and support they’ve been looking for.
