At Dig Deep, we believe everyone has a fundamental right to clean water, safe toilets and good hygiene through the achievement of UN Sustainable Development Goal 6. We work in Bomet County, Kenya, home to 1 million people and one of the most underserved and least resourced areas of the country.

Story

Ben and Harriet are volunteering for Dig Deep, a small charity which provides sustainable water and energy infrastructure to communities in Kenya.

We are working to create a clean, sustainable water supply for the 8,500 people of Endonyo Rinka. This community – located just to the north of the Maasai Mara – is currently facing a chronic water shortage, relying on standing ground water during the short rainy season and a polluted dam shared with wild animals during the dry season.

The direct impact is that they suffer and often die from a range of diseases contracted through drinking unsafe water including Typhoid, Dysentery, and Amoeba – infants and children are at greatest risk. Further to this, they have to walk long distances to collect this unsafe water. This burden falls disproportionately on women and girls, meaning that they are unable to receive an education.

This state of affairs does not have to continue. We can solve these problems by drilling a bore hole and harnessing it with a renewable energy pump, which will bring clean water to the surface indefinitely.

What makes our charity different is that we are staffed entirely by volunteers. This means that we run on absolutely no overheads - 100% of the money donated will go directly to this project.

So please Dig Deep and donate now.
