The Ultra X Jordan 250KM Ultra Marathon Challenge
From Monday 4 October 2021 to Friday 8 October 2021 we will be running a 250KM (155 mile) multi-stage ultra marathon through the Wadi Rum desert in Jordan, famously the land of Lawrence of Arabia.
Aside from the small matter of running 250KM (almost six regular marathons!) we will be battling temperatures of up to 35°C, desperately hoping for shade, dodging scorpions and trudging through the sand of the desert.
The route includes many parts of the famous Jordan Trail, exploring vast desert landscapes, traversing slot canyons, climbing soft sand dunes, and running under the starlit sky.
As part of this epic challenge, we wanted to raise money for an important cause, and settled on Mind the mental health charity.
Why Mind?
Mind does great work to provide advice and support to empower anyone experiencing a mental health problem. They also campaign to improve services, raise awareness and promote understanding of mental health.
Every year, one in four people will experience a mental health problem. The COVID-19 pandemic, 'lockdowns', social restrictions and economic uncertainties have increased the pressures that we all face and those with existing mental health issues have been adversely affected and cut off from their usual support networks.
With mental health a major issue in its own right and the pandemic situation still a reality, the work of Mind has never been more important and your support would be more valuable than ever.
Any support you can give and any donation, no matter how small, would be hugely appreciated and thanks again for taking the time to read this!
