Story
I joined Designability in 2021 as custodian of the charity's Marketing & Comms for a maternity cover contract.
The work the charity does to enable disabled people to live with greater independence is inspiring, life-changing, trailblazing, innovating and thought-provoking.
As a father of two young children I sometimes wonder what life would be like if either of them had been born with a disability that affects their movement. It would be devastating for them not to have independence - the chance to explore, play and interact on their own and with families and friends.
Designabilty's Wizzybug Loan Scheme provides powered wheelchairs for free allowing this independence for disabled children from a young age. You can't get a Wizzybug on the NHS so fundraising is vital.
At the other end of the scale I look at my parents and how, as they get older, they become more disabled by their environments. Another example of Designability's work is a project to make public EV charging accessible to all. As we adopt electric vehicles we need to ensure everyone can charge them. We're all going to get old some day and when we do, this important work will have set the standard to ensure we can charge our vehicles safely and easily. For disabled people this work is vitally important to ensure disabled drivers and passengers are not left stranded after the EV switchover.
These are just two of the projects the charity is currently working on.
So yeah, in summary Designability does really important work which has global reach in terms of removing barriers to disability.
Your support helps us play a part in transforming the lives of thousands of children and adults with a disability and enables us to fulfil our vision of a more inclusive and accessible world for everyone.
