Story
Multiple Sclerosis is a life-threatening condition which can cause blindness, loss of all muscle use and many people are confined to living most of their adult life in a wheelchair. MS is a disease of the central nervous system attacking young adults in their 20's and 30's. There is little knowledge about the causes of MS and no known cure but with person-focused physical, social and emotional therapies our members can live a better quality of life.
The 40th London Marathon has been cancelled twice because of COVID. I was entered into both of those marathons in an attempt to raise money for a charity that has particular importance for my family. The charity is the Wessex Multiple Sclerosis Therapy Centre https://www.wessexms.co.uk/
The Therapy Centre is completely self-funding and very grateful for support.
The good news for the Wessex centre and bad news for you and me is that the Virgin London Marathon team have organised for a virtual/remote marathon to be held on 4th October 2020 instead. For those that had a marathon place in London, they can now run the 26.2 miles anywhere they want as long as they complete the distance from 00:00 to 23:59:59 British Summer Time on 4th October.
So, to make this more of a challenge, I will do my marathon near where we live in the Jura Mountains as a trail run, with near 2,000m of climbing, and I hope that I can still raise lots of money for an important charity. As always my mad dog Luna will be my running partner but I have some very supportive friends who will join me for different legs of the journey. However, I expect it to be hell.
