Story
My brother Tom and a friend, Harry Leigh, and I are taking our bikes by Eurostar to Paris and then cycling down to Cahors to join our family at a holiday house. The distance is 520 miles - 830 kms - and we plan to do it in seven days. If you would like to sponsor me and give something to Solace, I'd be very grateful.
Solace is a charity that offers counseling and psychotherapy to asylum seekers and refugees in Yorkshire and Humberside. Asylum seekers, in particular, are among the most reviled people in our society but also the most needy. Many of Solace's clients have been imprisoned, tortured, raped and seen family and friends murdered. But, extraordinarily, many report that the experience of applying for asylum in Britain is worse: uncertainty, poverty, intermittent imprisonment while waiting – perhaps for years - for a verdict from a system which is notoriously flawed. Half of asylum seekers have mental health problems and some are suicidal.
