Bens story:
Bad mental health and addiction have been a part of my life since being a teenager. At first alcohol and drugs seemed like a bridge to normal living, the confidence and escapism they provided truly felt positive to my life experience. But as the disease of addiction took hold, functioning without these became harder, all aspects of my life, and the lives of my loved ones began to suffer. I feel truly blessed that at my lowest I was able to reach out and receive the help I needed to turn my life around. Today at 6 months sober I am so excited about my future in recovery and the opportunities this gives me. I’m raising money for Turning Point as addiction treatment is underfunded throughout the UK and the services they provide nationwide make treatment more accessible. Every pound will make a difference to this inspirational charity and its life-saving work.
Ellies story:
People will always do drugs and drink alcohol, however not enough is done to protect young people from some of the dangers associated with substances. My family have witnessed first-hand the devastating effects these can have. In 2019 my wonderful cousin Ned lost his life to a Xanax overdose. Ned was an amazing person, he inspired everyone that he met and had a budding passion in photo documentary. He will always be remembered for his sense of humour, positivity and ability to see the best in everyone. I am doing this for Ned, my brother, my best friend and anyone else that has been touched by substance abuse.
Fearmongering and victim blaming wont save lives when it comes to substance abuse and addiction. Organisations like Turning Point understand that promoting mental wellbeing and providing non-judgemental help for those who need it is the only way we can begin to save lives. Mental health support, free rehabilitation, and youth-focused care are just a few of the vital services they undertake to help thousands of young people struggling with substances and mental health.
The 3 peaks challenge involves climbing the highest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales (Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon), one after another – within 24 hours. We have covered all the costs to undertake this, every penny donated will go straight to Turning Point and fund their extremely important work. Thank you for your support!
