Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

We've joined together to raise money for our chosen charity 'the brain tumour charity' in memory of Mickey Kersley. You'll see our team fundraising target on the right. Your donation can really help us smash this goal.

On the 1st October 2016 after feeling slightly unwell for 2 weeks complaining of dizziness and headaches Mickey went to St Peters hospital A&E department and later on that evening underwent a CT scan tragically revealing a malignant brain tumour.

A week later we had an appointment with a neuro surgeon at St Georges hospital who then broke the shocking news that Mickeys brain tumour was terminal. (grade 4 glioblastoma.)This was a massive shock to all family and friends considering how fit and healthy he was.

After being diagnosed with such sad news it was now time to start the real battle, and anybody that knows Mickey will know that he was a true fighter!

Straight away he was put on a 6 week intense course of chemotherapy and radiotherapy which Mickey took in his stride. He never once complained and carried on going to work like the true grafter he was.

Furthermore at the start of 2017 he was given more chemotherapy and radiotherapy alongside other medication to try and sustain his quality of life after a slight dip in health. Mickey still had a good quality of life for the next few months although his cognitive ability was impacted.

June 2nd 2017 Mickey turned 50 in which he celebrated with a few beers with friends and family.

On the 6th July 2017 Mickey was made a Grandfather for the first time something which he was very proud of. This was especially touching as it was his target he had set himself after diagnoses to be here for the birth of his first grandchild.

Sadly on the 23rd September nearly one year after being diagnosed with a brain tumour  Mickey Kersley passed away leaving all family and friends heartbroken.

As a group we would all like to raise as much money as possible to help support the Brain Tumour Charity. There is 10 of us friends taking part in the Tough Mudder which will require us to complete a 10 mile run through thick mud whilst going through 20+  army style obstacles, so a lot of training and preparation is going into this! Some need it more so than others!

Although we will never bring Mickey back we think we could all carry on his legacy that was always being so helpful to everybody, by donating money towards such an under funded charity you will be helping with the essential research to hopefully find a cure one day!

Thanks for taking the time to read our story and thank you all in advance for all your support and kind donations, lets try and raise as much as possible in memory of the great man Mickey Kersley.
