Virtual Race - The Great Charity Run - 30 miles in a month · 1 May 2021
I have had Tinnitus which is a constant ringing in the ear/ears for around 8 years now. It can be quite debilitating and damaging to mental health, and I struggled to cope with it early on resulting in me shying away from social interaction in my personal and professional lives, as I struggled to hear conversations and noisy places made it worse. My tinnitus is a constant high pitched buzzing in my left ear, I have no idea why it started and after having medical tests there is no medical reason for it either, it's something that will likely always be there. The information and help provided by the BTA has been invaluable in helping me cope with the condition and get access to medical help and support, which has got me into a good place with my tinnitus now and I want to give back and raise some money for this very worthy cause. My tinnitus now is more or less under control and doesn't affect me daily although I do still have spikes where it gets louder and I become more aware of it for a few days.
The challenge I will be completing is to run 30 miles in a month which will be May 2021. I am just coming to the end of completing the couch to 5K program so this will be a good challenge for me and raising money for the BTA will help motivate me to carry on the work I have done over the last 9 weeks.
The British Tinnitus Association is the only national charity specialising in tinnitus support. Their vision is a world where no one suffers from tinnitus. They receive no money directly from the government, so are 100% reliant on the generosity and support of members of the public and grant-making organisations to be able to support people with tinnitus across the UK. All of their work is paid for by the generosity of supporters like you.
