Rainforest Foundation Taut 10K 2006 · 29 October 2006 ·

The Rainforest Foundation UK aims to protect tropical rainforests by working with those who know the forest best – indigenous peoples and traditional forest dwellers. By supporting them, we're taking a major step forward in the battle to combat climate change.

Story

We are running race number 4 (the 10K Rainforest Taut on
Sunday 29th of October)of our illustrious and controversial
racing series.
Frank is leading 2-1, and if he wins again, Ben may have to
admit that Frank, although wizened and athletically inferior,
possesses an alarming knack of winning (think 1990 German
football team) that is... well... unbeatable.

We are looking for a small donation to support our charity
The Rainforest Foundation. We are on the brink of catastrophic
climate change, and we need all the trees we can get!
Depending on who you listen to, we are either 10 years away
or already passed the point of no return. Think positive, and
do something about it now! (and at the same time, offset your
guilt from driving a car or flying this Christmas) £3.00 buys
10 seedlings to plant, £20 protects an acre.
As a further incentive, we’ve written a personal account of
our racing series to date. Have a look below.

When you support us, pick who you think will win and the winning
time.(Leave a comment when you make your donation)
The most accurate guess wins an acre of rainforest protected on
their behalf and a tasteful personalised certificate. Read more here
http://www.rainforestfoundationuk.org/s-Protect%20an%20Acre
The certificate will be bought by the loser.

Thank you all,
Ben and Frank

Race History
Race 1: 10K Richmond Park 2003
Ben: 49min
Frank: 46.30min
Ben as it happened:
I drank far too much wine the night before, and shrivelled up into
a dehydrated ball midway through the race. Stopped and drank loads,
but couldn’t recover the time.
Frank as it happened:
I won.

Race 2: Half marathon (21K) Silverstone Race Track Spring 2004
Ben: 1 hour :44 min
Frank: 2 hrs :02min
Ben as it happened:
Resounding victory. Frank may claim that he had food poisoning,
but I could easily claim drinking too much wine is a form of
poisoning (see previous race)
Frank as it happened:
I lost.

Race 3: 10K Victoria Park October 2004
Ben: 44:32
Frank: 44:30
Ben as it happened:
Didn’t see Frank for the whole race. He cheekily hid behind people
when I turned to look for him, and gutlessly waited until the last
minute to pip me at the line.  Technically not cheating, in the
same way that bowling under armed is not cheating,(counting on kiwi support here) and invading Poland is fair.
Frank as it happened:
I won.

Race 4: 10K Regents Park October 2006
Ben: 43:36
Frank: 46:40
Frank as it happened:
For the last few weeks, Ben called me every few days moaning that he was too fat, tired, lazy, sore, or drunk to run.  I felt sorry for him and offered encouragement.  On the race day he turned up a stone lighter and told me he had been secretly training 5 times a week for 6 weeks, and had not drunk a single beer.  The cheating swine!   During the race, I was further demoralised when the smell of sausages wafted from a nearby stand. (Ben’s doing?? He knows its my German weakness) I didn’t see Ben during the race, and was hoping I may have won, until I saw his smug face on the sidelines as I crossed the line.
Ben as it happened:
I won. (now we are even in races and dodgy tactics)
