Ben's story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I've run the Great North Run for the past few years and this year wanted to raise some money for a charity which are working to support those living with leukaemia.
The reason I've chosen Leukaemia Care is because in 2015 my Mam was diagnosed with CLL. In 2016, my mam had chemo therapy and enjoyed 6 years remission but unfortunately relapsed last year. She began treatment in May 2022 and is approaching the end of her treatment andis doing incredibly well! And loves her weekly Granny duties with Rose and Fern! (Rose and Fern love Granny Days!)
CLL (Chronic lymphocytic leukemia) is a type of cancer in which the bone marrow makes too many lymphocytes (a type of white blood cell).
Leukaemia Care is a UK-based charity that offers support, advice, and information to people affected by blood cancer. Their services include a helpline, support groups, and educational resources. They also fund research and raise awareness about leukaemia and related conditions. Leukaemia Care aims to improve the lives of those affected by blood cancer by providing practical and emotional support, promoting the importance of early diagnosis, and advocating for the needs of patients and their families.
My amazing mam, or Granny Beth as she is known to her favourite people, has undertaken two rounds of chemotherapy and had many hospital, doctors, consultant appointments to last a life time! She's sick of them. But she keeps smiling and being the best mam and Granny around but her response to treatment is excellent which makes it all worth while!
Leukaemia care is a great source of information, advice and support to my mam and us as a family and we are grateful for them.
Please consider donating to this worthy charity in order to help the Granny Beths of the world.
Lastly, we will all know someone to be affected by cancer at sometime in our lifetime. If not this charity, please think about making a donation to one of the many cancer research and support charities out there.
Thanks, Ben
