Sometimes, the best medical care isn't close to home. Ronald McDonald House Charities provides free 'home away from home' accommodation for families with children in hospital, so they can be together. There are Ronald McDonald Houses across the UK, all just moments away from their respective children's wards, with plans for further developments well under-way.The Charity has been supporting families for 30 years and in this time has supported nearly 50,000 families. As an independent charity, they rely on the support and generosity of volunteers, fundraisers and donors, including you!
When my wife and I were pregnant with our first child, we found out at the 20 week scan that Charlie has a rare and serious heart condition, he required life saving open heart surgery at 8 days old at the Evelina hospital in London, Charlie has since needed 2 further open heart surgeries, the last of which was a months stay in hospital, living in Brighton, without the support of the Ronald McDonald so close to the hospital, giving us a room to stay in to get a nights rest or a place to get an hour or two away from the hospital whilst the other one of us was with Charlie, we would have had to travel up and down by train to the hospital. The whole environment in the house is so well organised with the kitchens allowing you to cook a healthy home cooked meal rather than a ready meal heated up in the hospital family room, the receptionists are so welcoming and understanding with what the parents are going through, and getting the chance to meet parents in similar situations, and we know that we are likely to need the use of Ronald McDonald house again for Charlie’s future operations so to be able to do this to raise some money for the charity is the least We can do, thank you in advance for any donation you decide to make, even just a small donation makes a huge difference
