In his school days he was a keen long distance runner and encouraged me to be a distance runner as well.He played rugby and was an international rugby referee and was the linesman for a France England game. He also played cricket and was president of the Scottish Cricket Union as well as a member of the MCC. Further more He was the president of the Forthill Sports Club and involved in organising a variety of sporting events representing the club.
