BUPA Great Manchester Run 2012 · 20 May 2012 ·

Every day in the UK, another 240 people wake up to the catastrophic impact of a stroke. The Stroke Association is the only charity in the UK providing lifelong support for all stroke survivors and their families.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Report: my official time was 48:49 (although my GPS told me I'd run 10k in 48:21, so frustrating!). Anyway, I powere through an horrendous stitch at 5k, wanted to die at 9k, and finished knowing that I couldn't havegiven any more. I hope you are impressed and give generously.

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Last year I set myself the challenge of running the Manchester 10k in under 50 minutes, which I managed despite an injury that meant the first 10k I ever ran was just 6 days before the event.

Well, I have no such gimmick going for me this year, so I've had to make one up. This year, Manchester are going to be graced by me running the 10k in the usual hideous Stroke Association vest, plus a beautiful (and natural) ginger moustache. Better than nothing, eh? Come on, give us a few quid!

This year I plan to come in under my previous Manchester 10k time, coming in at 48:30 or under. So please dig deep and give me as much motivation as you can!

My family has first-hand experience of the trauma strokes cause, and the Stroke Association does great work. An estimated 150,000 people have strokes in the UK each year. Of all people who suffer from a stroke, about a third are likely to die within the first 10 days, about a third are likely to make a recovery within one month and about a third are likely to be left disabled and needing rehabilitation. The Stroke Association funds research and supports victims and their families.
