Story
Benedict Sutton’s Gap Year with Urban Saints (national)
This is a tailor-made leadership development programme (January – August).
The focus is 2 fold:
• Helping the ministry of Urban Saints as it builds homes in April and supporting the Rainbow 97 FM radio station and their community projects.
• But also on developing my character and giftings, rather than just being seen as extra manpower for these charities
• The end “product” will be the development of my own spiritual growth, rather than just how much I contribute to the running of Urban Saints
• What’s fundamental is to allow God to move and direct the gap year – therefore the below breakdown has been created with flexibility in mind:
In each week … |
Mid-Jan – Mid-June |
Mid-June – August |
Spiritual Input through discipleship course called “Radish” (2 days per week)
|
Serving in South Africa (Mid-January – June)
· Shadowing and working for Humphrey Birkenstock at Rainbow FM
· Setting up, leading on and following up on the Youth Mission Project, building housing for the underprivileged in Grasmere. I'll be helping to lead up to 200 young people on this mission. |
Serving in the UK (Mid-June – August) · Shadowing Bill Hebner, Urban Saints Emerging Leaders Director · Working up in Urban Saints’ head office in Luton, with freedom for God to guide me to areas of work I would be most suited to · Preparing for and leading on a programme of national camps and holidays for young people |
Spiritual Output through national Urban Saints organisation while in the and at Rainbow FM in Johannesburg (2 days per week)
|
||
Spiritual Output through Urban Saints Guildford and serving in local church (Millmead in UK, tbc in South Africa ), (2 days per week) |
I am trying to raise £5000. This would include funds:
1. To cover the cost of the housing mission (accommodation, food, living costs, flights, insurance, living costs, etc)
2. To maintain me in South Africa outside of the mission
3. To create a discretionary scholarship fund, so that young people from financially difficult backgrounds are able to have this life-changing experience, through serving on the mission.
Please stand beside me, and consider being a part of my GAP, through:
Giving
I am currently contributing a substantial portion of my income, together with a sizeable percentage of my earings accumilated through part time employment over the last few years. However, I also need the financial support of others to make this leadership programme a reality.
So please consider sponsoring me:
1. By putting a cheque in a specially designed sponsorship envelope
2. Donating through Justgiving.com: It's quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me - Urban Saints gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving.com automatically adds on any claimable gift aid, which can increase your donation by 28%!
All donations made on this website are shown without the name of the donor, giving you the freedom to give the amount you personally feel is right. The only two people who know how much you've given are me and you.
Acting
- The housing project is open to any young person over the
age of 12, who is willing to do five days of hard work and to help others in need. If you fall into that category, or know someone who may be interested in going on the South Africa mission, then please get in touch with me for more details.
Praying
- Please consider supporting me in prayer – if you would like
to receive prayer letters, please email me your contact details (with a preference for email, snail mail or Facebook)
- “If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer” (Matthew 21:22)
- “The prayer of a godly person is powerful. It makes things happen.” (James 5:16b)
