Story
I'm not entirely sure how this happened but incredibly honoured to say I've been given a place to run the 2023 London Marathon for Alzheimer’s Research UK, a cause very close to my heart.
A few Christmas' ago, my grandpa fell ill. He recovered physically but it soon became apparent he was showing the early signs of dementia. Like the thousands of other families affected by dementia, it's incredibly hard to see the person you cherish change and deteriorate in front of your eyes.
He is a great man. He never took life too seriously but lived it to the fullest and put a smile on everybody's face. The countless hours we spent on golf courses in my school holidays are a large part of who I am today.
A few years, and various lockdowns, later, he is now in a care home. He's much different now but, at his core, one can still see the faintest glimmers of that great man.
As a doctor, my Grandpa spent his entire working life dedicated to helping others. To run in his name and continue his legacy of helping others is something I'm incredibly proud to do.
It may be too late to help him but I hope that the money raised can help Alzheimer’s Research UK as they continue their quest to find a cure for this horrible illness.
Any support, whether that be donations or just a share, would be hugely appreciated!
Many thanks,
Ben
