Offering lifelong support to the Royal Marines Family.

Story

Meet Corporal Cai Vickers. Cai is a fellow Royal Marines Physical Training Instructor. Last year Cai was involved in an unfortunate accident during an inverted rope climb which left him paralysed from the waist down. This was a devastating blow to a man in the prime of his physical prowess but like any good Bootneck (Royal Marine) he has not let this injury determine what he is now capable of. At just 7 months post injury, Cai has already set his eyes on competing in triathlons. It is this kind of stubborn determination which saw Cai excel within his role in the Marines and can act as a true inspiration to us all.

My names Corporal Ben McLean. I am an Exercise Rehabilitation Instructor and I am in a privileged position, working as part of a multi-disciplinary team, in aid of Cai’s rehabilitation. I have seen the sheer determination which Cai shows day in, day out, to adjust to his new way of life whilst always maintaining a smile on his face.

On Saturday 3rd July I will be attempting to run the Hope24 race. This is a brutal 24hr Ultra Marathon and I will be doing so wearing a 10kg weighted vest throughout. I am attempting this feat to raise the funds needed to buy Cai a racing wheelchair. He will need this chair (along with various other pieces of equipment) to be able to train for and compete in future triathlons. This will be a huge mental and physical challenge for me but with the support of you guys behind me, I am confident that as a team we can get Cai his wheelchair.

So please, if you have a few spare pounds, get behind us and donate. Thankyou.
